NHIS CLASS OF 2017 WINS THE CASH FOR COLLEGE CHALLENGE

Congratulations to the Class of 2017 for winning the CASH for COLLEGE Challenge sponsored by Hawaii P20 and the 55by25 initiative. As part of the challenge, the school that was closet to 100% was declared the winner. The Class of 2017 was able to get 61% of its students to complete and submit their FASFA applications. The Class of 2017 was able to beat out seven other schools. It was also a 32.9% increase from last year.

This challenge was a collaboration between the Hawaii Department of Education and HawaiiP20, promoting the 55by25 initiative. Other schools part of the challenge were: McKinley High School, Waipahu High School, Waialua High & Intermediate School, Leilehua High School, Kealakehe High School, Waiʻanae High School, and Farrington High School.

NĀNĀKULI HIGH & INTERMEDIATE RECOGNIZED IN LATEST REPORT ON COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS FOR THE CLASS OF 2016

The College and Career Readiness Indicators Report for the Class of 2016, released by Hawaii P-20 Partnerships for Education, show that Hawaii students continue to reach higher levels of achievement, with more students taking college-level courses while in high school and graduating with college credits. Nānākuli High & Intermediate School has shown an increase in students taking AP exams, an increase in student Dual Credit participation, and an increase in nationwide college enrollment. NHIS JUNIOR SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN ISLANDER SCHOLAR ACADEMY

Makani Kauweloa, a Junior at Nānākuli High & Intermediate School, has been selected to participate in a three-day summer retreat with the Islander Scholar Academy. The Islander Scholars Academy honors public high school juniors who exemplify the values that make Hawaiʻi unique. Makani will connect to and learn from other like-minded students, talk story with cultural practitioners and mentors, share about their communities and ‘ohana, and deepen their understanding of their kuleana as they head into their senior year and beyond. NHIS JUNIOR RECEIVES PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD

Congratulations to Junior, Kanani Diamond for receiving the 2017 Prudential President's Volunteer Service Award. This award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities. Kanani exemplifies the true spirit of service and is a role model for other people.

NĀNĀKULI INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS SHINE AT DIMENSIONU HAWAII MATH GAMES

Two teams, made up of Intermediate students, participated in the DimensionU Hawaii Math games. The event was held at the University of Hawaii-West Oahu Campus on Friday, February 17. The team made up of 8th grade students came in first place in the Intermediate Division. The other team made up of 7th grades came in third place.

DimensionU creates engaging and interactive multiplayer video games that focus on core skills in mathematics and literacy. Our content aligns with the Common Core, state standards and classroom instruction. Click on the link for more information on DimensioinU.
